As a parent of a cancer survivor, I wanted to give back to cancer organizations which assist families and survivors of cancer, and to provide funds for continued research. I have students at Boston College who donate their containers with deposits to my program, Cans Against Cancer, and I donate 100% of the proceeds to 5 cancer organizations: American Cancer Society (through Relays For Life), Cops For Kids With Cancer, Take A Swing at Cancer, The V Foundation and The Jimmy fund. Last year I raised over $16,000 which was over 329,000 cans and bottles. Since inception in 2006, I now have 20 businesses within a 20 mile radius of Boston who donate their cans and bottles as well. I feel my program is a win-win situation for both the environment and cancer research and treatment.
