Energy free humidifier

I place a plastic trash bag over the back of a kitchen chair when the heat comes on for the winter, the bag protects the surface of the chair from the water. I then drape a thick bath towel over the plastic covered chair back. Twice per day, I take a glass measuring cup and slowly pour 3-4 cups of water into the towel until it is wet, but not so wet it drips on the floor. The surface area of the towel is large and the water slowly evaporates out of it adding electricity-free humidity to the air all day and night. At the end of the dry-air heating season, I simply wash the towel returning it to the linen closet and use the trash bag in the trash can. The size and loft of your bath towels determines the amount of water it can absorb for evaporation into the air. For large homes, put one on every floor and/or in every room!
